 5th Grade-- Ms. GizzieMinimize

Here are a few important expectations for you to know as you enter the fifth grade.

  • Math homework will be given every night and sometimes over the weekends.
  • Reading 30 – 45 minutes every night will be expected at first, then as the year goes on that time will be expanded to 40 – 45 minutes and maybe up to an hour!!
  • Homework will be given an effort grade. As long as you put some effort into your homework and complete it, you will have no problem. If the homework is not getting done then you will be spending time from your recess to complete the work.
  • Most of fifth grade communication will be done through the internet. At the beginning of school each fifth grade will collect e-mail addresses for our address book. All newsletters and information regarding behavior or upcoming events will be sent out by e-mail and school newsletters.

As always parents are encouraged to come in, call or send e-mails to teachers as well. We welcome parent involvement!

The best way to communicate with me is through e-mail.

Dear Parents,

We know that it may be tricky to find time to get to the library and check out new books or sometimes your children may attempt to read books that are a challenge. Although we encourage children to visit the library and find books of interest, we now have a new way for you and your child to read at home! Our new Houghton Mifflin reading series allows children to access hundreds of ‘just right’ books from home by accessing http://eduplace.com/eservices. You’ll find this program to be such a motivator and a frequented website that you’ll want to add to your favorites! We will also have a link on our Literacy Web page
