Gifted and Talented - Mrs. Stagner

The writing students in Mrs. Stagner's classes have been working zealously on personal narratives.  Depending on the age of the student, you may hear the words "small moment" stories or "personal narratives."  They are basically the same, with a personal narrative being a few (or many) small moment stories put together.

Other terminology I hope you are hearing would be

  • seed idea (versus a watermelon or a slice)
  • story mountain (which is like a plot map, and used for planning before drafting
  • reading like a writer
  • showing rather than telling
  • identifying and using feelings & emotions, as well as active/lively verbs

Please ask you child about these concepts!

Your child has writing displayed in the hallway outside Room 13, and hopefully s/he has brought home writing to share with you as well.
