Welcome to the Whitman Literacy Program. Our program services first, second and third graders who need extra support with reading. Literacy Program students meet daily for 30 minutes with a Literacy Specialist. Students receive intense differentiated reading instruction to meet their individual needs. Our literacy groups consist of an average of 4 students. 

 

Literacy students will have homework every evening. In order to improve their reading skills, students are expected to read each night in order to practice their skills. Students bring home books that they have read in school. Research shows that students who have many opportunities to read books independently make faster progress in the long term.
